Chain Park

The Catene di Marghera Park, inaugurated in 2010, extends over eight hectares planted with oaks, elms, ash trees, white poplars and other varieties of trees and shrubs, as well as four hectares of flowering meadows and 6000 square meters of wet meadows.

The ground has been remodeled in part by designing embankments that perceptually determine the views that can be had on the park and its surroundings. They were built using the earth obtained from the excavations of the underground car parks of the adjacent buildings.
The materials used for the design of the paths are: concrete “ribbons” which in some points widen and fold laterally until they become a long continuous bench; gravel arranged in correspondence with the stretches that trace the original lines of the fields and below which micro-perforated pipes have been positioned for the drainage and storage of water; the earth stabilized.

There is also a total area of about 1600 square meters intended for playgrounds made with a synthetic flooring in colored resin.
The project also took into account the future maintenance of such a vast publicly owned park: for this reason the large lawn areas were treated according to different criteria. Flowered lawn areas have been designed for mowing in the busiest parts, while the embankments are characterized by stable lawn mats that involve much more modest maintenance costs.

The park was also equipped with a building intended to house changing rooms, a bar and other services. A series of dry and sharp partitions fit together giving rise to the spaces that are hit by sharp and clear shadows originating from these same surfaces and constitute, in my opinion, the three-dimensional declination of the formal layout of the park.
