The Convento do Carmo is a former convent of the Order of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel, commonly known as Carmelites, located in Lisbon near the Rossio and the Castle of San Giorgio.
The convent is located in the freguesia of Santa Maria Maior and was destroyed during the earthquake of 1755 which also destroyed the Gothic church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (in Portuguese Igreja do Carmo), which was at the time the largest Gothic church in the city. Traces of the colossal earthquake remain on the southern facade of the convent, still visible from the old city.
