Venice Arsenal


The Arsenal of Venice is an ancient complex of shipyards and workshops that forms a very large part of the island city of Venice, at its eastern end.

The first "factory" in the world that used the assembly line to build vehicles, in this case the military ships of the Serenissima Republic were built, it is said that to amaze foreign ambassadors, they made a visit to some areas of the arsenal and showing an empty brim.

The next day with a second visit, they made them find a new and completely built prison from scratch, this impressed the ambassador so much that when he returned home he advised against the government to proceed with any kind of conflict against the Serenissima, considered so very powerful organized.

In fact, it was the heart of the Venetian naval industry starting from the 12th century and is linked to the most flourishing period of the life of the Serenissima: thanks to the imposing ships built here, the Venetian Republic was able to fight the Ottomans in the Aegean Sea and conquer the northern routes. Europe.

With its 48 hectares of territory, located on the eastern edge of the Ancient City, in the heart of the lagoon system that includes the islands and the coast, the Arsenal of Venice is undoubtedly one of the most interesting areas for the sustainable development of the entire metropolitan area.

In addition to its great historical and monumental value, in fact, it has large spaces of architectural and landscape quality and the charm of a functional organization intertwined between land and water.

Over centuries of history, the names of spaces and buildings have also been stratified on the places of the Arsenale.

Some of these names refer to the construction phases of the complex, others to the morphology of the places, others have kept the memory of the work that was carried out in the buildings.
