The Pantheon in Paris, erected as a Catholic church dedicated to Sainte-Geneviève, is a monument located in the French capital in the heart of the Latin Quarter (5th arrondissement), at the top of the Sainte-Geneviève hill. It is 83 meters high in all. It is surrounded by the Saint-Étienne-du-Mont church, the Sainte-Geneviève library, the Sorbonne and other monumental buildings.
Particularly impressive is the view from rue Soufflot, near the Luxembourg Gardens. At first it was a simple church, but over time it turned into a sort of mausoleum of the mortal remains of the characters that have marked French history. Designed by Jacques-Germain Soufflot it is the first major neoclassical monument. Since 1920 it has been a historical monument of France.
