Big palace

Located in the heart of Paris on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the Grand Palais is the emblematic monument of the RMN-GP. Built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900 and dedicated "by the French Republic to the glory of French art", it was declared a historic monument in 2000.

The structure was built in the style of Beaux-Arts architecture as taught by the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The building reflects the movement's taste for ornate decoration through its stone facades, the formality of its floor planning, and the use of innovative techniques at the time, such as its glass vault, its iron structure and light steel frame, and its use of reinforced concrete.

The Grand Palais (French: Grand Palace) is a large masonry and glass exhibition pavilion, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. It is located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, in the space of the Champs Élysées Gardens.

Built together with the Petit Palais and Pont Alexandre III, the exterior of the structure combines an imposing, classically inspired stone facade, with Art Nouveau railings and allegorical statues by Paul Gasq and Alfred Boucher.

The building was closed for twelve years for a radical restoration after a glass panel fell from the roof in 1993. It reopened on 24 September 2005.
