The Parish Church of Garda is dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, as written on the facade of the church itself and is located in the ancient village at the foot of the Rocca.
In 1530, by order of the bishop of Verona Gian Matteo Giberti, the construction of the new church began; in 1529 the first stone had been laid, but due both to the poverty of the town and to the slowness of the Ospedale Maggiore of Brescia which was supposed to provide for the expenses, 235 years passed before the works were completed (1764).
