The Church of Santa Maria Regina Pacis built in 1928 in Lido di Ostia by the ca. Architect Giulio Magni.
The church was built by the will of the bishop of Ostia, Cardinal Vincenzo Vannutelli, with the aim of invoking Mary queen of peace to put an end to the war that was raging in Europe at the time.
Although the project dates back to 1916, it was not until 21 June 1919 that the first stone was laid for the new building.
Due to lack of funds, the works continued for a decade: the first financiers, the Augustinian fathers of the basilica of Sant'Aurea, were replaced by the Pallottine Fathers of the Society of the Catholic Apostolate; the church, which in July 1926 had been erected as a parish, was opened to the public on 20 December 1928 with the solemn consecration.
Inside, the church has a Latin cross structure with a single nave with side chapels and a deep polygonal apse, for a total length of 56 meters and a total width of 21 meters.
The large central nave is inspired by the transverse arm of the Roman basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Santi, with a barrel vault with lunettes and three large windows on each side with a tripartite lunette. The vault is supported by eight large smooth columns with Corinthian capitals, four on each side, placed in the spaces between the arches that separate the central nave from the side chapels. Among these stands the chapel of the Pietà, with a painted wooden statue, and the chapel of the Madonna of Pompeii, with an elaborate neo-baroque altar.
