Bivona Castle

The Bivona Castle in Sicily (Bivona tower; castrum or turris Bibonae) is located in the urban center, between via Panepinto and via Benedettini.
The castle would have been founded in the first half of the fourteenth century.

It was a palace located in Bivona, in the city of Sicily. It was built during the 14th century and was partially pulverized while it was looted during 1529. The Palace is currently in remains, and a couple of remains can be viewed anyway.

The first attestation of the existence of Bivona dates back to 1160, at the time of King Roger II and his successors William I and William II. From a simple farmhouse inhabited by a Muslim population, in a few years it became an important center of the Vallo di Mazara.

Having become a lordship at the end of the 13th century, it was sacked by the royal troops commanded by Francesco Ventimiglia in 1359. The castle of Bivona was then entrusted to Corrado Doria in custody.

Bivona developed mainly under the dominion of the Chiaramonte (1363-1392) but above all under that of the De Luna, protagonists of the cases of Sciacca
