Relais Palazzo Lodron

The building, significant for art and history, has been the residence of the Lodron family since 1456. In the second half of the 16th century work began on the palace by incorporating existing buildings.
An inscription above the entrance portal indicates that it was built on pre-existing buildings at the behest of Count Nicoló Lodron in 1593. Some work on the exterior was subsequently not carried out.

The palace is arranged on three sides: a long central body and two wings. The central body is defended towards the valley by a wall with towers at the corners. The south wing houses since 2010 the "Relais Palazzo Lodron." while the north wing is home to the winery.

Access is between two towers with noses and loopholes. Passing through the southern gateway that leads into the palace courtyard, one is immersed in the greenery with its cherry trees. Upstream is a surrounding wall with a beautiful fountain with a lion holding the motto "Fortitudo," the emblem of the Lodrons. Opposite is the main entrance to the palace surmounted by a limestone statue representing Nicolo himself. The gateway of the north wing leads into a beautiful tree-lined avenue with horse chestnuts, between two walls, leading to the locality of S.Lucia.
The Renaissance palace is especially remembered as the seat of the court in the witch trials in the period 1647-1717.

The Lodrons, one of the most important families in Trentino, were originally from the area north of Lake Idro first mentioned in 900, with estates in the Giudicarie, Rendena and Chiese valleys.

In the mid-1400s they arrived in Vallagarina, when they answered the call of the Prince-Bishop of Trent, Giorgio Hack, who was having problems with some feudal lords. Among them were the counts of Castelbarco, who had in fact refused for some years to ask him for the renewal of the fortresses of Castelnuovo, Castellano, Nomi and Castelcorno. The bishop then instructed the Lodrons to strike the infidel feudal lords, and so Marco di Caderzone, with his father Giorgio and uncle Pietro, occupied Castelnuovo (Castel Noarna) and forced the other three castles to surrender. As a reward, the bishop gave the castles of Castelnuovo and Castellano as a fiefdom to the Lodrons.

Inside the Relais there are 5 rooms, 5 suites and 2 apartments. The rooms are furnished with modern larch furniture, and all rooms have modern and ancient works of art inside as well as being equipped with all comforts.

Indoor garage

Guests of the relais have a parking space in the garage for each room booked.

Swimming Pool and Sauna

What better way than to take a swim in the pool to relax and leave everything behind? The pool is 12 meters long with whirlpool benches and countercurrent swimming.

Thanks to the glass doors lining the entire north wall, even during the coldest times of the year you will have the feeling of swimming outdoors.

There is a Finnish sauna in which temperatures reach between 70° and 90° C with humidity between 10 and 20 percent. Those who find the traditional Finnish sauna too hot or too dry can take advantage of the biosauna.

The average temperature is around 50° C, with humidity up to 75 percent.

Breakfast

Typical Vallagarina products are served in the morning in the bright breakfast room. You can try fruit juices, jams, eggs, butter, bread, sliced meats, cheeses, fruit, cakes and fresh croissants.

In the summer months the ritual of breakfast can also take place outdoors, in the garden, surrounded by mountain scents.
