The existence of the Castle on the Lama is already mentioned in 1311 in Sebastiano Andrea Antonelli's "Historiae Asculanae." This was an important and strategic aerial between the northern territories and the powerful Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, which the Tronto River divided into a natural boundary.
The Borgo Storico complex includes a Mansion that in the medieval phase (1300 - 1400) was in the central body a cluster of small houses that unitedly formed a defensive Fortress. In the 1500s three imposing through galleries, north - south, unified these small buildings by incorporating them and forming a unified Castle.
In the late 1600s, a façade body, in the shape of an inverted "T," was added to the defensive castle, transforming the building into a country palace for private use. This addition made the interior of the palace habitable, which today has an imposing reception floor and two other floors where the seven fine suites are now located, where summer family life once took place.
The entire large historic, architectural and landscape complex is listed and protected by the Italian State Superintendency of Fine Arts and is still owned by the same family now for many generations. Today its direct owners and curators are Ben Gladstone and Stefania Gladstone Pignatelli.
