The Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation

The Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation preserves an important part of the book, archival and artistic heritage of the Bourbon family of the Monte di Sorbello.
The fief of the marquises was located between Tuscany and the Upper Tiber Valley.

In the eighteenth century the family bought today's Palazzo Sorbello in Perugia.
From 1860 it joined, through marriage ties, to the Ranieri counts, taking the name of Ranieri di Sorbello.

Palazzo Bourbon di Sorbello, dating back to the 16th century, has belonged over time to various noble families from Perugia until in 1780, it was acquired by the Bourbon Marquises of Sorbello.

In the hallway of the noteworthy building is an extraordinary example of external wooden flooring, unique in Umbria and very rare in Italy. This type of floor was used to muffle the noise of the carriages entering the building.

At the top of the grand staircase opens the noble floor of the residence of the Marquises.

Rooms with frescoed vaults, embellished with eighteenth-century furniture and chandeliers, house a rich collection of fine 18th-century Ginori porcelain, period paintings, prints and the historic library of the Ranieri di Sorbello family. One of the rooms is dedicated to the display of embroidered fabrics made by the Ranieri di Sorbello School of Embroidery, founded by the Marchesa Romeyne Robert in 1904 at the Pischiello family villa, on Lake Trasimeno.

During various periods of the year, temporary exhibitions relating to the history and collections of the Bourbon Marquises of Sorbello are set up within the tour itinerary.

Visitors are welcomed in an elegant hall with a frescoed vault, with videos and display cases and with a large panoramic terrace with a suggestive view over the city of Perugia and the surrounding hills.
