Gentili Palace

Palazzo Gentili was built in 1524 at the behest of Francesco Gentili, a noble lord who moved with his family from what is now the Fabrianese area to San Severino Marche, a small town full of charm in the heart of the Marche region.

Structure

The structure overlooks the wonderful Piazza del Popolo: its central location makes it easily accessible and allows guests to move around in comfort.
The Piazza del Popolo loggia houses the main entrance, anticipating the great beauty for which the palace was known even in the Renaissance era, a sign of the power held by the Gentili di Rovellone family. The magnificent ribbed doorway, embellished with masks by local artist Venanzio Bigioli (1771 - 1854) anticipate the short staircase, surrounded by 4 imposing columns, accompanies visitors to the main stairs of the structure and to the inner courtyard.

Style

The unique and elegant style can be seen in every detail, such as in the walkway that guides guests up to the upper floors, where each room holds a real treasure in the form of the wonderful frescoes on the walls and ceiling.
Pearls of these rooms so steeped in history are the opulent ballroom, with original elements such as the large mirrors on the walls and the wrought-iron balcony. Going up just one floor, in one of the apartments, it is possible to enter through a small door into a true work of art: the private chapel of the Gentili family, entirely frescoed by Biglioli and complete with its original furnishings.

La Corte interna

The inner courtyard and garden represent a glimpse of visible history, as the guest ascends through the upper floors, the chronology of the structure's modifications: the legacy that the Gentili generations have deliberately left behind during their history confirms the philosophy that prompted Francesco Gentili to build this splendid architectural work "for himself and for posterity."

La Chapel

A magnificent example of Renaissance art is the small chapel dedicated to Blessed Camilla Gentili located in the noble apartments on the second floor. Camilla, daughter of Luca Gentili di Rovellone in Brandina Grassi, was murdered by her consort Battista Santucci, a violent man who had always been in strong conflict with the Grassi family, guilty of violating a ban on talking to her mother. Lured by deception into the countryside by her husband, she was stabbed several times in the chest despite the fact that she prayed to the last to the Lord for forgiveness. After the incident, her husband attempted to flee, but failed to do so. Buried in the church of St. Dominic, Her tomb was from the beginning a popular destination for many of the faithful. She was therefore finally proclaimed Blessed by Pope Gregory XVI in 1841.
