Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium

The Marcantonio Bentegodi Stadium is a sports facility in Verona.

It was designed by Eng. Leopoldo Baruchello according to a very rare solution in the panorama of Italian sports facilities, that is, by overlapping three orders of stairways. Inaugurated on 15 December 1963, it replaced the old and homonymous municipal stadium which was located in the area of ??Piazza Cittadella.

It features an eight-lane athletics track which was overhauled in August 2010 (the old track had deteriorated) and replaced by a new asphalt track, painted in blue and yellow and open to skating.

With a total of 39 211 seats, of which only 31 045 are homologated, it is the eighth Italian stadium in terms of capacity.

The stadium is home to the internal meetings of the two major Verona professional football teams, Verona and Chievo.

It also hosted the Bardolino Verona Women's Champions League matches, some youth team matches, rugby matches, athletics events and also to perform musical concerts.

Its capacity has varied over the years, especially after the Italia 90 World Cup when all sectors were covered and free places were eliminated.

It currently has 42 160 seats, distributed over a parterre (of which only the eastern part is now open to the public, limited to the disabled and their companions), three superimposed rings (armchairs, grandstand and upper grandstand) and a press gallery (182 places).

Nicknamed the stadium of the forty thousand at the time of construction, the Bentegodi appears inside as a large elliptical amphitheater.

It is dedicated to the memory of Marcantonio Bentegodi, a historic benefactor of the 19th century Veronese sport.

It was inaugurated on December 15, 1963 on the occasion of the Serie B match between Verona and Venice.
