House of Music

The House of Music was opened on 1 April 2011 and the official inauguration was held on Saturday 16 April 2011. It was created by the municipal administration to meet the needs of a wide range of citizens of all ages, both from Cervignano of Friuli and of the neighboring municipalities, which, passionate about music, did not have a suitable place to be to rehearse and to record.

The House of Music in Cervignano del Friuli is the second built in the region, after that of Trieste.
It is located in the city center in a building already used as a bus depot. The project was handled by the Geza Gri and Zucchi Architetti Associati studio.

The original building has been profoundly renovated to accommodate various cultural activities. The floor plan was maintained, the masonry pillars and some interiors, parts of the exterior in exposed brick, in particular in the blind facade facing south. The new functions have been incorporated into the existing structure, creating a union between the old and the new.

The structure is characterized by large low-submissivity windows that provide natural light to the interior spaces of the ground floor and first floor and make it possible to see the characteristics, the multifunctionality and the different environments distinguished by various colors. The windows are framed in a frame of significant architectural value, which completely occupies the center distance between the masonry pillars and protrudes from the edge of the facade, covered in black steel sheet.

On the ground floor there are four separate rooms, soundproofed and equipped for musical rehearsals and recordings, which mark the space with lively chromatic variations, an entrance / reception, a secretarial / management office, a double-height common foyer room with a small dining area. and with wait functions.

The corridor, which characterizes the length of the structure, is an articulated space that can also be used as an exhibition space due to the favorable homogeneous natural light. On the first floor there are a recording room, an auditorium for concerts with 97 seats, conference projections and an office and meeting area with space for educational use.

The House of Music is a multipurpose cultural center, a place for the promotion and dissemination of humanistic culture and for the promotion and production of music, the seat of initiatives of cultural, artistic and social importance, especially for young people. It is a point of reference for all the realities of the territory (music schools, musical groups, bands, choirs, cultural and social associations) for carrying out its activities and for proposing initiatives of cultural and social interest open to all and for local music lovers.

The structure is part of the cultural pole also constituted by the Library-Civic Center and the Pasolini Theater and carries out a cultural project within it or in collaboration with other bodies and structures aimed at disseminating humanistic, historical, musical, artistic, social, scientific studies, networking the various skills of the associations and local bodies that continuously use the structure and support and promote study and lifelong learning, as well as educational projects.

The activities that can be carried out within the Casa della Musica are in principle the following:

- conferences, conventions, round tables, presentation of books, magazines and catalogs,
- meetings, shows, concerts, dance performances, musical entertainment activities, readings, projections, DJ sets
- internships, laboratories, courses, workshops, educational and training projects;
