Trieste University

The University of Trieste is an Italian state university founded in 1924 as a Royal University of Economic and Commercial Studies. Before that there was the High School of Commerce - Revoltella Foundation, established in 1877 in accordance with the testamentary will of the Baron Pasquale Revoltella, when Trieste was still part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

After the annexation of Trieste to Italy, the High School was equalized, in 1919, to the other existing higher institutes of commerce to become a University, with royal decree of 8 August 1924, n. 1338. In 1938, with the establishment of the Faculty of Law, which went to accompany the Economics and Commerce faculty, the University rose to Studium Generale, assuming the name of Regia Università degli Studi.

In the same year, after the solemn laying of the first stone on September 19, 1938 in the presence of the head of government, Benito Mussolini, construction began on the University headquarters in a dominant position on the Scoglietto hill, built by the construction company Ulysses Igliori di Roma, designed by the architects Raffaello Fagnoni and Umberto Nordio.
