Hellenistic Tomb, Sacred Area of the Marina

Sacred Area of the Marina
A third sacred area was found about 80 m south-west from the National Museum, therefore outside the walls.

The first excavations of 1886 brought to light a monumental temple, of which today only a few limestone blocks remain. The discovery of archaic terracottas of the type recovered in the Griso-Laboccetta fund indicates an archaic phase of use, just as the material of the classical age traces back to this subsequent period also a phase of reconstruction. For this sanctuary the attribution is rather controversial, but the most probable divinity to which the temple is dedicated seems to be Artemis Phacelitis.
