The Belluno Historical Institute of the Resistance and of the Contemporary Age was born in 1965 with the name of the Historical Belluno Institute of the Resistance, subsequently modified in its current name, on the initiative of a unitary committee of former partisans, administrators and local scholars, united by the common intent to promote studies on resistance and to spread its ideals among the younger generations.
The Institute promotes the study of the history of resistance and the contemporary age in a local, national and European context.
To this end: it collects and orders all the documents and memorabilia that affect the history of resistance, as well as other periods of contemporary history.
It promotes study conferences and updating and research initiatives aimed at teachers, with particular reference to the issues of European integration; collects testimonies, promotes investigations with public and private entities, ascertains statistical data on military, economic, political, social, cultural and religious life; promotes collaboration with other cultural bodies and associations for the study and elaboration of the above-mentioned themes and other topics concerning current affairs; he takes care of the publication of a periodical magazine together with series of studies and monographs on the subjects mentioned in the previous letters.
Isbrec adheres to the "Ferruccio Parri" National Institute, formerly the National Institute for the History of the Liberation Movement in Italy (Insmli) and is part of a network of 68 institutes spread throughout the national territory.
It is inspired by the values of peace and civil coexistence derived from the Liberation struggle and enshrined in the Italian Costitution.
