Synagogue of Alexandria

The Synagogue of Alexandria is the result of the transformation of a pre-existing building located in the heart of the former Ghetto. As early as the end of the 1700s, together with the other functions, there was an oratory of more modest proportions camouflaged in the residential building curtain.

As happened in many cities, the Community wanted to celebrate the Emancipation of 1848 by erecting a new monumental temple, a symbol of integration into local society. The building was inaugurated in 1871, after four years of construction.
