Synagogue of Casale Monferrato

The Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato is one of the twenty-one Italian Jewish communities united in the UCEI. It is defined as a small community and currently has just about ten members. The community is based in vicolo Salomone Olper 44. The current president is Giorgio Salvatore Ottolenghi.

The first sure news on the presence of Jews in the city dates back to the years immediately following 1492, the year of the Spanish diaspora.

The Jewish Community of Casale Monferrato developed first under the Palaeologus, then under the Gonzagas in the sixteenth century and mainly practiced trade as an activity, even on a large scale. In 1640 the Jona family became the official supplier of wheat to the whole city.
