The museum, open since 1995, set up in the "sub-square" rooms of the medieval village of Pigna, accompanies the visitor in contact with the memory of the peasant civilization of the Alta Val Nervia and invites him to become aware of the heritage of knowledge and practices from it. developed.

In five exhibition rooms objects, tools, documents and photographs related to pastoral, peasant and artisan activities are collected, together with the memory of the traditions most linked to the devotional aspects and popular entertainment, from religious processions to the festivals that once gave rhythm to social life.

"La Terra e la Memoria" (The Ground and the Memory) intends to focus attention on the indissoluble bond that unites each artifact with every activity connected to it, through the testimonies of history, surviving on ancient municipal parchments or recorded by today's audiovisual media. To facilitate this journey into the past, the museum makes use of didactic aids and thematic cards, where each piece is qualified by its technical denomination in Italian, Pignasco, French.

Among the objectives is to enhance the integration between the Museum and its territory, already the subject of thematic itineraries such as those dedicated to the Piedmontese Giovanni Canavesio in the vast frescoed cycles in the church of San Bernardo (Passion and Final Judgment, 1482) and in the large polyptych of San Michele in the parish church (1500) and interesting exhibitions "The water tells" and "Artisan shops".
