Chateau de Bosses castle

Bosses Castle is one of the castles of the Aosta Valley, located in the municipality of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses.

The Bosses castle is located next to the parish church of the hamlet of Saint-Léonard: it is a massive building, composed of a single three-storey structure and adorned with beautiful mullioned windows. The origin of this stronghold dates back to the 12th century, when it belonged to the Bocha family, who held it to the lords of Quart.

After the destruction of the tower at the beginning of the fourteenth century, following a conflict with the Count of Savoy, the castle was no longer mentioned until the fifteenth century, when the current building, which belonged to the nobles of Boss until 1742, probably dates back. .

Sold to the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta in 1984, the castle was the subject, at the end of the 90s, of an Interreg project that allowed the restructuring and creation of a cross-border cultural center intended to promote the Pays du Grand- San Bernardo and the pass of the same name.

The restoration did not change the original external appearance of the castle, which bears the signs of the various architectural interventions that have taken place over time.

Its large rooms, furnished in a modern style, host exhibitions, conferences and cultural events related to local history and art.

Under the patronage of the Region, a restoration of the building was begun in 1998, which ended in 1999, which brought back to the furnishing of some modern-style rooms for conferences, exhibitions and events. The castle externally looks from the fifteenth century, while the interior, which could not be restored, is completely renovated and rebuilt for museum use.
