Monti district

The Monti district in Rome is the district of art galleries and wineries. After a long phase of urban reorganization, it is now the mecca for all young tourists traveling to the capital. It borders the Rome of the Imperial Forums and the Esquilino district.

A few steps from the district there are the magnificent basilicas of Santa Maria Maggiore with the characteristic Cosmatesque floor and that of San Pietro in Vincoli which houses the famous Moses by Michelangelo.

Monti is an eclectic neighborhood in the city center, with bohemian and classic elements. In the southwestern part there are archaeological sites such as the Trajan's Markets and the building of Nero's Domus Aurea. The squares and side streets are overlooked by family-run trattorias, chic wine bars and original vintage boutiques that attract a heterogeneous clientele made up of expats, students and locals. Via Nazionale and via Cavour are the main commercial streets of the area.
