Borgo Antico di Ostia

Ostia is not only the beach of Rome or the famous archaeological site, but also a small village with its walls and its Castle, where time seems to have stopped, away from the disorder and "heaviness" of the Roman suburbs, with magnificent plump cats standing guard everywhere and a very nice English lady who decided to live right there, with her imperfect Italian and her desire to look after all those felines that idly correspond to her call. the homes of the workers who worked in the nearby salt pans.

Ostia Antica

In the fifteenth century. the fortress, which had been built to defend the village from the Saracens, was completely restored by Giuliano della Rovere (future Pope Julius II) to take on the present shape of the Castle and the three rows of terraced houses were also built.

A flood in 1587 diverted the course of the Tiber and the castle, losing its defensive and customs function for all ships arriving from the port, fell into disrepair.
