In 1552, after the death of his wife Giulia Farnese, Prince Vicino Orsini, "to vent his heart", created the Sacro Bosco di Bomarzo together with the architect Pirro Ligorio.
The park, located in the province of Viterbo, is inhabited by immense sculptures of monstrous and mythological characters, exotic animals and impossible architectures; along the way, moreover, there are mottos and enigmatic inscriptions whose meaning escapes even the most passionate scholars.
