Historical Archive, Museum, Library and Italgas Emeroteca

The Historical Archive, the Museum, the Library and the Italgas Emeroteca contain a cultural heritage of over 170 years of the company's history and a technological revolution that has contributed to changing the face of the country. The Historical Archive was born in 1984, with a central nucleus represented by the documentation relating to Italgas and the first Turin companies for the production and distribution of illuminating gas from the early 1800s and the aggregate archives of many companies that have been controlled or participated over the years. by Italgas. In 1986 the Superintendency for Archival Heritage of Piedmont and Valle d'Aosta recognized it as an "Archive of considerable historical interest".

Over the years, it was decided to add an exhibition section to the Historical Archive. The first installation of the Italgas Museum was born in 1994 and was designed primarily to illustrate the history of gas: from the production, by coal distillation, to the advent of methane, the various purposes for which, first one and then the other, they were used for lighting, heating and cooking food. In 2008, the Museum was moved to the premises that house the Italgas offices: on that occasion, the exhibition and narrative path was reworked by inserting multimedia and interactive elements designed primarily for a student audience. In the coming months, Thursday workshops will begin, organized in the Museum premises, for elementary and middle schools.

They will be an opportunity to combine the frontal lesson with a practical and engaging part where pupils can give vent to their creativity by building "gas objects", with easily manipulated materials. The Historical Library and the Blood Library, highly specialized and with valuable editions (from Van Helmont to Volta, from MincKelers to Accum) from the 17th to the 20th century, complete the picture of the documentation that Italgas makes available to citizens.
