Museum of Contemporary Art of Lissone

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Lissone was built in 2000, near the railway station, to give an official seat to the collection of works already present at Palazzo Terragni and in Villa Candiani-Magatti. Its establishment was approved by the City Council in the 1994-1998 legislature together with the new Civic Library of Lissone with the attached Furniture and Furnishing Library and the establishment of the Lissone Project, and was inaugurated in 2000 in the recovered area where it stood in the 1840 the Meroni furniture factory, of which traces are still preserved in the architectural layout of the imposing external facade.

Since 2004 it has obtained the important and qualifying regional recognition of the status of Museum, in reference to the technical-scientific criteria and the standards identified on the basis of the Ministerial Decree May 10, 2001. The Museum presents a historical collection, made up of works of contemporary art awarded and acquired during the various editions of the Lissone Prize (from 1946 to 1967 first, and subsequently from 2002 to today). Inside the museum are visible, among others, works by internationally renowned artists such as: Birolli, Gualtiero Galmanini, Moreni, Morlotti, Schifano, Vedova, Reggiani, Antoni Tàpies, Dorazio, Bellegarde, Adami. Particular attention is also paid to the life and work of Gino Meloni, a great painter from Lissone who passed away in 1989, the inspirer and founder of the Lissone Prize, to whom the exhibition room on the -1 floor of the Museum has been dedicated since 2014.
