Villa dei Leoni Theatre

The Villa dei Leoni Theater in Mira is an elegant space owned by the Municipality of Mira (Province of Venice). Located along the Brenta Riviera, less than 20 km from Venice and 30 km from Padua, the theater can now accommodate up to 300 spectators between the stalls and the steps.

The structure of the Theater is part of the complex of Villa Contarini dei Leoni, a splendid 16th century palace just restored and reopened to the public from October 17, 2008. Rebuilding the history of the Barchessa of Villa dei Leoni, which since 1988 became the Theater of Mira, is rather complicated because of the fragmentary documentation about it. It is certainly possible to say that since the 1950s this building has undergone various uses, while still maintaining the quality of public use space.

Among the various functions, it is possible to mention the school, gym and rehearsal room of the municipal band.

In 1984 the Municipality of Mira deliberates the destination of the Barchessa as a theater and the restructuring project proposed by the architect Giovanni Predieri was approved. the recovery and enhancement of the original formal and typological elements still traceable in the building and the creation of a modern theatrical structure corresponding to the technical and functional requirements it requires.

Currently the Villa dei Leoni Theater is a 300-seat hall and hosts various theatrical reviews and events.
