EEHAR, Spanish Institute of Roman Archeology

Born in 1910, the EEHAR maintains the spirit that gave rise to its creation and that was stated in the founding decree. Three are its fundamental aspects. Firstly, the training of young specialists in history and archeology through the execution of a program of research contracts, the updating of traditional CSIC-Rome scholarships and the reception and tutoring of predoctoral researchers of training programs of research staff and university teaching staff of Spanish universities. Secondly, the School pays particular attention to the historical relations between Spain and Italy, where we find the study of our history, our way of being, through archeology and through the precious documentary funds that are here continue. Thirdly, La Spanish school is integrated in Rome in one of the largest international research campuses in the humanities. Active member of the International Union of Institutes of Archeology, History and Art History of Rome, made up of 36 institutions (10 of which Italian) from 20 different countries, this representation of the CSIC in Rome has already had occasion to demonstrate its spirit of collaboration which means increasing in the future, based on the availability of all the colleagues in its new office.

Since its foundation in 1910, the Spanish school has had four different locations in Rome. He was born in the building annexed to the Church of Monserrat, spent years later in Via di Villa Albani (1951), and later shared for a short time the building of the Spanish Academy of Fine Arts in the Janiculum (1986), for many years He worked on the Via di Torre Argentina (1992) and since 2014 he has settled on the Via di Sant'Eufemia. Of course, of this entire Roman journey, it is the latter venue that meets the best conditions for the work of our high-level researchers and structures (library, auditorium, seminar room and residence for passing researchers). All, the product of the work and commitment of two CSIC presidency groups and two subsequent addresses of the School, committed to increasing the presence in Rome of Spanish research in history and archeology. Challenge that the members of the Spanish school take on with all the passion we are capable of.
