Belgian Academy

The Belgian Academy, together with the Belgian Historical Institute of Rome and the Princess Marie-José Foundation, aims to encourage scientific and cultural relations between Italy and Belgium, both by offering hospitality to Belgian researchers and artists who are in Italy for their research, both by presenting the most important Belgian creations in the artistic and scientific field to the Italian public. It currently represents a unique space for research, creation, collaboration and promotion in the heart of Rome. The Academy welcomes Belgian researchers and artists who carry out their research in Rome. It has a scientific library of around 80,000 volumes and a music room. Furthermore, each year Stipendia academiae belgicae is awarded to PhD students or young researchers. Since 2006, some rooms have been available to host short seminars for specialization classes, organized by a professor from a Belgian university.

The Academy is a meeting point for Belgian, Italian and foreign academic circles in Rome. It regularly hosts talks, especially in the context of cultural agreements between Italy and the French and Flemish Communities of Belgium. The Academy is also part of the International Union of Institutes of Archeology, History and History of Art in Rome, which brings together thirty-four foreign academies in Rome, and actively collaborates on research projects undertaken in this area. The Academy regularly organizes concerts, exhibitions and conferences to present the most important Belgian cultural, scientific and artistic achievements to the Roman public. These events generally benefit from the collaboration of Belgian music conservatories, universities and cultural institutions.
