Austrian Historical Institute of Culture

Her scientific activity is not limited only to the projects of individual collaborators, but also involves projects of Austrian researchers and researchers, as well as European colleagues, representing a wide range of the following disciplinary areas: History (Ancient History, Medieval Studies, Modern History, Contemporary History), History of Art, Archeology, Classical Philology, Byzantine Studies, Romance Philology, Musicology, Theater Studies, Political Sciences and Legal Sciences (in particular Roman Law and Canon Law). To promote new scientific levers in the branches mentioned above, the Institute annually grants a limited number of scholarships.

At the moment, the Institute's staff concentrates its research on Medieval Studies (scientific collaborator) and Modern and Contemporary History (school director).

The most unique and rare conditions that Rome offers for historical research have largely determined the tasks of the Institute since its foundation. In addition to the numerous archives and libraries in Rome - especially the Secret Archive and the Vatican Apostolic Library - it is the city itself that offers unique conditions in the world for studies in the historical, cultural and humanistic fields in general. A considerable number of publications, which appeared among other things in the Institute's magazine, "Römische Historische Mitteilungen", demonstrate the multiplicity of scientific interests.

The experiences and knowledge acquired at the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome, especially during a scholarship or a research stay, assume a significant and lasting role in the curriculum of many renowned Austrian scholars. Through regular programming of symposia, conferences and events, the Austrian Historical Institute in Rome presents itself to the public not only as an inclusive scientific institution, but, increasingly, it is configured as a representative platform for interdisciplinary dialogue at national and international level.
