Finnish Institute of Roman Studies

The Institutum Romanum Finlandiae has been the basis for humanistic studies carried out by Finns in Rome for over sixty years. The purpose of the institute is to bring Finnish cultural life closer to classical culture through the research and teaching of Roman antiquities.

The research is carried out by groups of scholars that the director of the Institute in charge directs on specific topics. In addition to the courses, the Institute hosts fellows, scholars from various disciplines and also artists. Concerts, other cultural events and conferences are also organized monthly which aim to present Finnish cultural life to the Italian and international public. Cultural events are organized thanks to the indispensable support of the Friends of Villa Lante al Gianicolo. The Institute is located in the sixteenth-century Villa Lante al Gianicolo, a masterpiece by Giulio Romano, owned by the Finnish state since 1950.
