Ventotene Island


Ventotène is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, located off the coast on the border between Lazio and Campania. The island has volcanic origins, and is geographically part of the Pontine archipelago, while geologically it is part of the Phlegraean islands, together with Ischia, Procida and Vivara.

Ventotene has an elongated shape, measuring about 1.9 kilometers and a maximum altitude of 139 meters, administratively it is part of the homonymous municipality (inhabited by about 600 people) and the province of Latina. The island of Santo Stefano is located about 2 kilometers to the east, while the island of Ponza is 40 kilometers to the north-west.
