Cervantes Institutes


The Instituto Cervantes is a public cultural institution created in 1991 by the Council of Ministers and dependent on the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs which has as its purpose the promotion and teaching of the Spanish language and the dissemination of Spanish and Hispanidad culture; he is a member of EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture - National Cultural Institutes of the European Union). The Instituto Cervantes has 58 centers worldwide, 1240 teachers and provides more than 1600 course hours per day. The main offices are located in Madrid, in the Caryatids palace of the Calle de Alcalá, the ancient headquarters of the Banco Central, in Alcalá de Henares, the birthplace of Cervantes, in the Calle Libreros.

The Instituto Cervantes takes its name from the writer Miguel de Cervantes. The Instituto Cervantes works with Centros Cervantes (main centers) and Aulas Cervantes (simple "conference rooms"), as well as a series of institutions associated with it: Centros Acreditados (in Spain) and Centros Asociados (outside Spain).
