The Goethe-Institut Rom has set itself the following objectives: As a mediator and promoter of the Italian-German dialogue in the cultural and educational sphere, to arouse and keep alive sympathy and interest in Germany by making information available on Germany. Promote the learning of the German language in Italy. Stimulate cultural and educational dialogue in Europe. Encourage dialogue between Europe and non-European cultures, in particular in the Mediterranean basin.

Key points of the cultural program are the meeting between Italian and German artists and intellectuals, the presentation of contemporary German culture and the encouragement of Italian-German and European collaboration on a cultural and intellectual level. With the Decree of the Ministry of Education of 18 October 2007, the Goethe-Institut saw its status as an "accredited body" reconfirmed for training activities for school staff, pursuant to Ministerial Decree n. 90/2003.

As part of the promotion of the German language in Italy, it offers seminars and a variety of services, mainly aimed at Italian German teachers. In collaboration with Italian partners, it supports national and European linguistic policy projects and initiatives. The Goethe-Institut offers a differentiated program of German courses, taught by highly qualified native German teachers. The various exams of the Goethe-Institut are recognized all over the world.
