Aula Mario Baratto, Ca 'Foscari University

Founded on August 6, 1868 as a Higher School of Commerce, Ca 'Foscari was the first institution in Italy to deal with higher education in the field of commerce and economics.

Once the Aula Magna and the lecture hall of the University, the Mario Baratto Hall is one of the most beautiful rooms in Ca ’Foscari.

The unique view it offers on the Grand Canal, at the point which enjoys the widest panorama, is made even more remarkable by the superb interpretation that Carlo Scarpa gave of the Gothic polyphora on the occasion of his restoration of the room.

The adjacent boiserie, a particular wooden structure that can host small refreshments, and the peculiar wooden platform with movable anchors are also part of the Venetian architect.

In the room there are also two frescoes by Mario Sironi and Mario De Luigi.

The historical and architectural value of the room make it an ideal space to host high-level institutional and cultural initiatives.

Since then, the historical site has been located in the large Gothic palazzo in “volta de canal”, in the heart of Venice
