Castel Noarna (or Castelnuovo) is a medieval castle located in the hamlet of the same name in the municipality of Nogaredo in the province of Trento.
Almost certainly there was a Roman and then Lombard fortification on the site, the oldest archaeological find probably dates back to the Bronze Age and the first historical records referring to the castle date back to 1189, and refer to the events following the death of Bishop Adelpreto , probably during a clash with Aldrighetto di Castelbarco.
During the first centuries of the second millennium, control of the Adige Valley north of Rovereto was disputed by various centers of power, linked to the empire, the papacy or the episcopal principality.
The noble domination can be divided into three important historical periods, each of which left a mark on the structure of the castle.
The Castelnuovo were the lords of the manor between the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, they were succeeded by the Castelbarco (vassals of the bishops of Trento), until the fourteenth century. In 1456 the Prince Bishop of Trento Georg Hack ordered Pietro Lodron and Giorgio Lodron to occupy the castle by forcibly snatching it from Giovanni di Castelbarco who had risen against him, and so the Lodrons took possession of it and controlled it for more than 500 years, until recently.
