Church and Convent of San Domenico Maggiore

The Church of San Domenico Maggiore is a monumental church of Naples located in an almost central position with respect to the lower decumanus, in the homonymous square.

Monumental complex in the heart of the ancient center of Naples.
Ancient splendor, the convent of San Domenico Maggiore, which forms a complex of grandiose proportions with the church, is the result of a centuries-old stratification that was started starting from 1227 when Pope Gregory IX sent a small group of Dominicans to Naples who settled in ancient monastery of San Michele Arcangelo in Morfisa. Thomas Aquinas stayed in the convent between 1272 and 1274 and taught theology in the Studium established there by Charles I of Anjou. Do not miss the refectory room, the Chapter room, the Library room, the cells of the Dominican fathers and the most famous one of St. Thomas Aquinas.
