D’Accoddi Mount

Monte d'Accoddi, sometimes written Akkoddi, is an important archaeological site, attributed to the culture of Abealzu-Filigosa, of pre-Nuragic Sardinia. Due to the concentration of different construction typologies, the monument is still considered unique not only in Europe but in the entire Mediterranean basin, so singular that it is morphologically united to a Mesopotamian ziqqurat. Monte d'Accoddi is located in the Nurra region of north-western Sardinia, and more precisely in the municipality of Sassari, near the old route of the state road 131 Carlo Felice, in the direction of Porto Torres, in the land originally owned by the family Signs.

The complex is located within a portion of the territory that records a significant presence of prehistoric monuments distant from each other a few hundred meters. In addition to Monte d'Accoddi, the most important are the necropolises of Su Crucifissu Mannu, Ponte Secco, Li Lioni, Sant'Ambrogio, Su Jaiu, Spina Santa and Marinaru, the dolmens and menhirs of Frades Muros, as well as a dozen nuraghi.

The monument, unique in the Mediterranean basin, was part of a complex from the pre-nuragic era, which developed on the plateau starting from the second half of the fourth millennium BC. and preceded by traces of frequentation referring to the Middle Neolithic. In a first phase several villages of quadrangular huts settled in the area, belonging to the culture of Ozieri, to which a necropolis with hypogeum domus de janas tombs and a probable sanctuary with menhirs, stone slabs for sacrifices and stone spheres refer.
