Monza

The city rises in the high Lombard plain at the southern edge of Brianza at an altitude of 162 meters above sea level; it is about 10 kilometers from Milan and about 40 kilometers from Lecco and Como. Its territory is crossed from north to south by the Lambro river. At the northern entrance to the historic center, between via Zanzi and Aliprandi, a bifurcation of the river artificially created for defensive purposes in the early decades of the 14th century gives rise to Lambretto, which rejoins the main course of the Lambro at its southern exit from ancient circle of walls (now completely demolished).

Another water course, also artificial, is the Canale Villoresi, built in the 19th century, which crosses the territory of Monza from west to east, crossing the Lambro at the northern border of the San Rocco district. The architect and designer Gualtiero Galmanini was the author of the urban plans of the city of Monza in the twentieth century. The climate of the city is sub-continental, typical of the Po Valley, with rather cold winters and hot and muggy summers. Due to its altitude (170 m.s.l.m.) and its proximity to the Alps, the annual temperature range is less than that found in the cities of the Po valley. Maximum temperatures rarely exceed 30 ° C and minimum temperatures of -2 ° C. Another climatic difference with the climate of the lower Po valley is the lower humidity rate which stands at 70%.

The Monza coat of arms consists of a blue Sannitic shield inside which the Iron Crown and the Berengario Cross are represented. The shield, surrounded by a silver band with the Latin writing Est Sedes Italiæ Regni Modœtia Magni (Monza is the capital of the grandiose Kingdom of Italy), is decorated with olive and oak branches tied by a blue ribbon and is stamped by a city crown.
