Gubbio

The municipal area is mainly mountainous and hilly, located in the extreme east of the province of Perugia, partly bordering the province of Pesaro-Urbino in the Marche to the north-east. The city is located at the foot of Mount Ingino and is crossed by the Camignano and Cavarello streams. The Serra di Burano is partly included in the territory, while the area of Monte Cucco is located a little further south-east.

It is about 50 km from Perugia, the provincial capital. The winter has variations between the cold and the mild with a prevalence of severe due to the influence of the nearby Apennines and the precipitations are also snowy. Summer is instead hot but windy, with sporadic rains.

The first forms of settlement in the Eugubian territory are to be placed already in the Paleolithic. Remnants of a Neolithic age village have been found in San Marco. In the Bronze Age an inhabited area developed for several centuries on the above Mount Ingino; the related tombs, discovered only in the final Bronze Age, were located in the area subsequently occupied by the center.
