Pesaro is an Italian town, the capital of the province of Pesaro-Urbino in the Marche region. It is the second largest municipality in the region by population, after Ancona, and the 51st nationwide. Overlooking the Adriatic Sea and crossed by the Foglia river, Pesaro is a seaside and industrial center located between two coastal hills: San Bartolo and Ardizio; its historic center is rich in elements of interest, especially from the Renaissance period.
The city has an urban area that extends beyond the municipal boundaries and includes several other municipalities such as Montelabbate, Vallefoglia and Mombaroccio.
It is known with the nickname of "City of the Bicycle", due to the vast network of cycle paths spread over its territory (which makes Pesaro the first city in Italy for the number of urban bike trips, on a par with Bolzano); and with that of "City of Music", due to the strong link still current with the Pesaro composer Gioachino Rossini and the numerous works by him.
In 2017, it obtained the recognition of Creative City for music from UNESCO, having had as the motivation for the candidacy its commitment to spreading, promoting and revisiting Rossini's music.
