Carpi

The municipality, the most populous in the province after the capital, is the main seat of the Union of Terre d'Argine, together with the municipalities of Soliera, Novi di Modena and Campogalliano, and is located about 20 kilometers north-west from Modena. The concentration camp used during the Nazi-Fascist period is located in the hamlet of Fossoli.

The territory of Carpi belongs to the low plain of Modena. According to data from the Modena meteorological station, it enjoys the typical temperate continental climate of the Po valley and of medium latitudes, with moderately harsh winter, little rain and with foggy days while the summer is hot and muggy, especially in the months of July and August , with temperatures that can rise above 35 ° C and with thunderstorm rainfall. Spring and autumn are generally rainy with milder weather.

Carpi was a medieval village of prehistoric origin (Villanovan civilization) refounded, probably as a stronghold (Carpi castrum), in the early Middle Ages. From the 14th century it was the seat of the Lordship of the Pius, to then become part of the Este domains in the 16th century. In 1779 it was erected as a diocesan see. After the Second World War, Carpi underwent a profound transformation thanks to the development of the knitting industry.
