Chambave

The municipality is located in the central valley of the Dora Baltea, about 18 kilometers east of Aosta and about 7 kilometers west of Saint-Vincent. The municipal territory extends both on the orographic left of the Dora Baltea (Adret), and on its orographic right (Envers). In the adret, it develops approximately up to 800 meters above sea level.

Much of the territory is occupied by the vineyards that produce some of the most renowned Valle d'Aosta wines. At the envers, the summit of Mont Avic reaches up to 3006 meters. Up to 800/900 meters a.s.l., the territory is made up of meadows and chestnut woods, above this altitude there are coniferous forests (especially larches and red pine).

Thanks to its position along the Via delle Gallie, the Roman consular road built by Augustus to connect the Po Valley with Gaul, and to its role as the seat of the Lordship of Cly, Chambave was in the past an important commercial center, and hosted many important fairs and markets. Starting from the fourteenth century, Chambave began to become famous for its wine activity, in particular the Muscat de Chambave.
