Challand Saint Victor

The area was inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the presence of a dolmen at the Col d'Arlaz, at 1029 m a.s.l., which connects the lower Val d'Ayas to the central valley in the municipality of Montjovet.

On June 26, 1928, with Royal Decree no. 1088, the municipality had been united with that of Challand-Saint-Anselme, under the unique name of Challant, later Italianized in Villa Sant'Anselmo (Ville is the name of the capital of Challand-Saint-Victor, while Sant'Anselmo is the patron saint of the parish of the municipality of Challand-Saint-Anselme); on September 12, 1946, with decree no. 9469 of the President of the Council of the Valley, the illustrious historian Federico Chabod, the municipality has been reconstituted again with the name of Challant-Saint-Victor (with the final "t").

The current denomination (with the final "d") is from 1976. It should be noted that the two toponyms "Challant" and "Challand" are homophones according to the rules of pronunciation of the French language.
