Antey Saint André

It is the first municipality of Valtournenche and a tourist resort located at 1074 m a.s.l. at the base of the mountains that precede the Tantané massif. The landscape is made up of vast meadows dominated by coniferous forests and aided by a temperate climate and the happy position of the territory sheltered from prevailing winds.

The natural environment of the municipality is practically intact except for the area occupied by the power plant built and put into operation in 1926 and which exploits the waters of the Marmore. Interesting is the lake of Lod, located at 1472 m a.s.l. whose banks are occupied by the typical marsh reed (Phragmites australis) and by many other botanical species now endangered.

It is about 33 kilometers east of Aosta. Since the prehistoric times, the valley in which the town stands has been an area of passage. The remains of a Roman burial ground have been found near Navillod, testifying to the human presence in the area since the Neolithic Age. The traces of the Roman period are few: between Fiernaz (pron. "Fièrna") and Antey, bronze nacelle fibulae were found, coins, soapstone artefacts, ceramic fragments dating back to the classical era. The same toponym is probably of Roman origin, perhaps derived from the patronymic Anthesius, for which however there are no documentary attestations
