Verbania is a scattered Italian town on the western shore of Lake Maggiore, the capital of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in Piedmont and is the most populous center of the entire basin of Lake Maggiore.
The municipality was born on April 4, 1939, by the will of Benito Mussolini, with Royal Decree no. 702, from the union of the municipalities of Intra and Pallanza, and became the provincial capital in 1992. The name Verbania is a cast of the Latin name of Lake Maggiore, Lake Verbanus. It took on the title of city from 2007, previously both Intra and Pallanza had already been awarded this title.
Verbania presents tourism developed thanks to its privileged geographical position; of particular interest are the botanical gardens of Villa Taranto on the Castagnola promontory and villa San Remigio, in Baroque style; therefore the city is called the garden on the lake, given the abundant presence of gardens and terraces.
