Lido di Tortora

The Lido di Tortora also called Tortora Marina (or Marina di Tortora), is located on the coastal strip of the Tortorese territory overlooking the Gulf of Policastro. Today it is the most populous fraction of the municipality of Tortora. It borders the Noce river to the north (natural border between Calabria and Basilicata) and to the south with the municipality of Praia a Mare. It is 106 km from Cosenza. Until a few decades ago it was a countryside cultivated with orchards and vegetable gardens, the economic lung of agricultural turtle dove.

Today Tortora Marina has about 4400 inhabitants and since the mid-eighties it has become the administrative center of the municipality of Tortora, with the move of the town hall from Tortora Centro Storico to Tortora Marina (Via Panoramica al Porto). Its demographic development took place exponentially towards the end of the seventies, transforming itself from an agricultural center into a residential and tourist-seaside center.

Initially it was divided into ten fractions which then unified. The original hamlets were: Benefici, Crisosa, Cutura, Girone, Falconara, Impresa, Pantani, Pergolo, Poiarelli and Riviera. Adjacent to the Marina di Tortora there are the hamlets of Castiglione, Rosaneto, San Brancato, Santo Stefano and Sicilione.
