Diamante

Diamante is an Italian town in the province of Cosenza in Calabria.

It is located on the north-western Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria. Located in the center of the Riviera dei Cedri. The geographical position, its about eight km. of beach with varied combinations of sand and color, as well as the crystal clear sea and the ever-changing seabed make it one of the tourist destinations in Calabria. Diamante has one of the two unique islands of Calabria, the island of Cirella, a small islet with a suggestive shape and wild flora where the seabed is splendid and the silver Posidonia reigns.

Different historiographical sources document settlements since the times of the Greek Phocians and Romans. The first news on the birth of a real inhabited nucleus in the places of Diamante date back to 1500, when Prince Sanseverino ordered the construction of a defensive position to counter Saracen raids.
