Lauria

Lauria is an Italian town in the province of Potenza, in Basilicata. Its territory is located at the crossroads of the Sinni, Mercure, Noce and Agri valleys. Divided into the two medieval agglomerations of the castle and the village, it was the seat of the county and the homeland of the legendary Ruggiero di Lauria.

The town, located between the provinces of Salerno (in Campania) and that of Cosenza (in Calabria), is the hub of three main roads: the A2 motorway (Autostrada del Mediterraneo) Salerno-Reggio Calabria, which follows roughly the ancient Roman road Capua-Rhegium; the Fondovalle Sinnica, which leads to the Ionian coast of Basilicata; the Fondovalle del Noce which connects the A2 motorway with the Calabrian-Lucanian Tyrrhenian coast. Furthermore, the city represents the meeting point of three valleys: del Noce, del Sinni and del Mercure.
