Montesilvano

Montesilvano is an Italian town in the province of Pescara in Abruzzo. Located north of Pescara, with which it borders and forms a single urban agglomeration, it is divided into Montesilvano Colle, the old center where there are still remains of the ancient medieval buildings (administratively, a fraction), and Montesilvano Marina (or Montesilvano Spiaggia) , formerly Contrada Marina, the most populous and modern part, seat of the municipality.

Located on the Adriatic Sea, it borders to the north-west with Città Sant'Angelo, to the south-west with Cappelle sul Tavo and to the south with Pescara and Spoltore. The city rises in the flat areas of the waterfront and the Saline valley, drawing an L inside which there is the hilly area of the historic center. Based on the 30-year reference average of 1961-1990, the average temperature of the coldest month, January, stands at +7.0 ° C; the hottest month, August, is +22.8 ° C.

The territory of today's municipality of Montesilvano enters history since Roman times, in particular the area of the Villa Carmine district, where in the republican age (already from the third century BC or, more likely, the second century BC) a temple dedicated to Jupiter, on whose remains a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Carmel was built in 1468 following an alleged miraculous event, located in what is still called via Giovi today. In the settlement there was also one of the various furnaces in the Pescara area.
